Children can step straight out of their classrooms into an outdoor play area at the remodelled Haltwhistle Primary Academy.
Four Newcastle Monopitch Shelters provide cover from the elements and help to mark out the individual class entrances.
The shelters were designed, supplied and installed by Broxap Street Furniture working with contractor Northern Bear Building Services Limited.
The school building underwent a major refurbishment as part of a programme of school upgrades by client Northumberland County Council.
As part of the £2.65 million scheme, the ground floor of the school building was dedicated to nursery and reception classes.
The former gym now operates as a children’s centre.
The ground floor classrooms open out on to a new decked terrace area.
A 12000mm long Newcastle Monopitch Shelter keeps play equipment safe and dry while three 5000mm long shelters form part of a safe outdoor play and learning space which looks out over the Northumberland landscape.
With a strong early years element to the school’s new facilities, Broxap was also commissioned to provide a customised Bedworth Buggy Shelter.
Featuring a rear-mounted security bar, the shelter offers a dedicated area for parents to leave pushchairs and prams while visiting the school, run by Wise Academies, and the children’s centre.
All the shelters manufactured by Broxap for the school featured clear cladding and a galvanised steel frame powder coated RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey.
