Client: IKEA
Panel contractor: Insulated Construction Ltd
Type of works: design and manufacture of Firemaster internal wall panel system.
Eurobonds Firemaster panel system has provided IKEAs new superstore with the ideal fire-resistant solution. The new store built in Aston-under-Lyne, has been designed and constructed using Eurobonds total internal wall solution, ideally partitioning the building to reduce the risk of flame spread in the event of a fire. Both Firemaster Wall Lite and Firemaster Wall Extra have been used within the four-storey construction, housing a mass of flat pack and soft furnishings.
Contractors Insulated Construction Ltd employed Eurobond Laminates to provide the internal panel solution due to its superb fire-resistant properties. Eurobonds Firemaster system has been tested and approved where appropriate to BS476 Part 22, EN 1364 Part 1 and LPS 1208, LPS 1181 Grade A standards along with FM Global FM4880. Both Firemaster Wall Extra and Lite provide the highest standard of fire resistance, offering up to 2 hours fire performance, containing the fire from the beginning through to its developed stage. In contrast products approved to LPS 1181 Grade B are approved only to initial reaction to fire and have no certified fire resistance.
Installation of Eurobond Firemaster panels can increase life safety and business continuity, whilst helping to provide a safe means of escape in the event of a fire.
The 27,500m2 rectangular steel structure is the UKs 15th IKEA store. The construction schedule was limited to just 10 months. Aided by Eurobond patented Panel Lifting Clamp, contractors were able to install the panels with their interlocking joints in record time, minimising panel damage and helping to reduce labour costs. Early installation enabled the commencement of internal works allowing warehouse storage and showroom designing to begin.
