Heated Driveway Systems (HDS) designed and installed a 65m road heating system at The Glade in Tunbridge Wells, providing reliable year-round access to a new development of five luxury townhouses and four apartments.
The steep road leading from the gated entrance to the properties required a solution that would maintain access during icy and snowy conditions without the need for manual snow clearance or salt.
Bespoke Heated Wheel Tracks
HDS designed the system using eight bespoke, triple-insulated outdoor heating mats. These create two 1m-wide heated wheel tracks along the 65m road, providing targeted heating for vehicle access while limiting the area requiring heat.
The heating mats were installed onto a tarmac base before being covered with a 50mm tarmac surface finish, integrating the system beneath the completed roadway.
Automatic Ice and Snow Protection
With a total output of 35.7kW, the road heating installation is controlled by an HDS fully automatic ice and snow melting controller. Temperature and moisture sensors monitor conditions and activate the system when required, helping to keep the road accessible during winter weather.
The completed system provides the residential development with an automated approach to managing snow and ice on its steep access road.
