Leisure complex is bowled over by MHI air conditioning

A high efficiency heat pump split system from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is taking care of climate control in a new ten pin bowling centre at the Metrodome Leisure Complex in Barnsley. The air conditioning package from MHI’s Ecolution range features an inverter scroll compressor and increased capacity heat exchanger to deliver optimum performance, whilst achieving a 37% reduction in annual energy consumption compared with previous models. MHI’s advanced inverter technology adjusts compressor output to match the cooling or heating demands of indoor units to save energy and eliminate temperature fluctuations.

The twin split air conditioning system, supplied by MHI distributor 3D Air Sales Ltd, is part of a project by Barnsley Premier Leisure to convert the Metrodome’s existing indoor crown bowls facility into a new 7-lane ten pin bowling venue. Sheffield-based HVAC specialists, Atkinson Parker Refrigeration Ltd, recommended an MHI heat pump split system as an energy saving solution for spot cooling or heating the ten pin bowlers’ seating area. Atkinson Parker’s Co-Director, Steve Parker, says: “We install MHI air conditioning on a regular basis because we find the equipment is very reliable and we always get excellent service and technical support from 3D Air Sales.”

MHI air conditioning for the Metrodome’s new ten pin bowling centre consists of two 8.0HP FDC200VS 20kW outdoor units, connected to four 10kW indoor ceiling cassettes which provide an effective stream of cool or warm air to the seating area as required. A single MHI remote controller for the indoor units enables the centre’s management to respond to changing temperature requirements at the touch of a button. All pipework for the MHI air conditioning system is located within a galvanised steel cable tray system, specified for the project as a fast and flexible alternative to traditional conduit systems.

At 1,300mm x 970mm x 370mm in size, even the largest FDC outdoor units from MHI offer a compact solution, particularly suitable for space restricted locations. There are 8 models in the FDC micro inverter outdoor unit range from 10kW – 25kW and a further 10 models in the FDC hyper inverter outdoor unit range (which reach set temperature in minimum time) from 7.1kW – 14kW.
