Micro Gold Steel: High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete Solution

Micro Gold Steel: High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete Solution

Micro Gold Steel

Micro Gold Steel is a pre-mixed product reinforced with metal fibres designed to improve seismic performance and strengthen concrete structures, even without the use of additional rebars.

Micro Gold Steel is classified as HPFRC: High Performance and Fibre-Reinforced Concrete.

It is characterized by a compressive strength at 28 days of over 100 MPa and a modulus of elasticity at 28 days of over 42 GPa.

Advantages of Micro Gold Steel:

Low thickness jacketing (20-45 mm) without rebar on reinforced concrete structures like beams, nodes, foundations, and walls.
• Low thickness (20-45 mm) collaborating slabs on floors.
Repair of reinforced concrete beams and columns.
Renovation of bridge decks, tunnel linings, and special pavements (airport runways, etc.).

FRC – Fibre Reinforced Concrete

Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is a composite material made of a cement matrix and discontinuous fibres, suitable for various structural applications like buildings and infrastructure, thanks to the properties provided by the addition of fibres to the cement mix.

Fields of Application:

Construction:
Low-thickness static strengthening of concrete slabs
Structural reinforcement of columns with jacketing

In static reinforcement of concrete slabs, HPFRC concrete can be applied in low thickness at the extrados without the need for diffuse reinforcement, increasing stiffness while ensuring high performance, speed, and ease of application.

Static reinforcement of concrete slabs, from as little as 2 cm thickness, can be combined with structural reinforcement at the intrados using the FRCM system, thereby increasing the flexural strength of reinforced concrete beams.

In jacketing interventions, using high-performance fibre-reinforced concretes reduces the thickness of the new concrete and the amount of rebars, delivering significantly higher performance. The addition of fibres improves the mechanical properties of the concrete, especially its tensile behaviour, and counters crack formation.

Infrastructure:

Structural reinforcement by bridge pier jacketing
Structural strengthening by restoration of the existing slab at the extrados

Using Micro Gold Steel for pier jacketing, in addition to reducing the amount of rebars, decreases plastic shrinkage cracking and enhances the Serviceability Limit State behaviour with high mechanical strength.

The high toughness provided by the metal fibres, excellent adhesion to existing concrete and treated rebars, as well as resistance to freeze/thaw cycles, makes Micro Gold Steel the ideal solution for extrados slab rehabilitation and structural strengthening of infrastructures.
