Client: Mothercare
Contractor: Bito Storage
Type of works: custom-design of an extensive wire mesh shelving system.
An extensive wire mesh shelving system for Mothercares new £13 million distribution centre in Daventry has been custom designed by industrial storage specialist Troax (UK) Limited. The new shelving has been designed with safety and ease of use in mind and incorporates an integral back-stop which makes it easy for staff to load and unload and also prevents items falling off the shelves.
The project was carried out in conjunction with Bito Storage, who supplied shelving structures and racking throughout the new warehouse.
The shelvings integral mid-span back-stop is formed out of the mesh panel itself, dividing the shelf in the centre. The neat, triangular back-stop allows warehouse staff to easily slide boxes onto the shelving, preventing the boxes from being pushed too far. An added advantage is that boxes cannot slip over the edge of the shelving, ensuring complete safety for staff working in the aisles.
Matthew Stone of Bito Storage explains: Troaxs shelving is very high quality and its purpose-built for the project so meets Mothercares requirements exactly. Because Troax is a company we deal with regularly, we know we can go back to them at any time to order more shelves if Mothercare decides to expand the warehouse in the future. You simply dont get this type of quality or continuity of supply with cheaper, imported products.
By using a company like Troax, that we have built a good working relationship with over the years, we know that we can be sure of the level of service and quality of product that our client demands. The finish is also very good the powder coated paint finish ensures excellent durability. Troax is a well known and trustworthy company who our client is also familiar with, which creates a much smoother working relationship.
Another important advantage of Troaxs shelving is its wire mesh design which allows smoke and heat to filter through the rack to trigger smoke detection systems and also allows the effective penetration of sprinkler systems in the event of a fire. In fact, this type of wire mesh shelving is being increasingly specified by insurance companies in order to comply with stringent Fire and Safety regulations.
