Client: National Maritime Museum
Architect: Long & Kentish
Contractor: Tilbury Douglas
Type of works: cladding of Flotilla Gallery with Gustafs Panel System®.
'The wall of the main space, the Flotilla Gallery, references the hull of a boat, and was a major construction feat. It creates a perspective of bowing outwards and marks the distinction between the dark gallery behind it and the lighter gallery spaces, and acts as a backdrop to the suspended boats. There is a steel frame behind the timber wall and we chose to clad it with thin, birch laminated gypsum panels by GUSTAFS Panel Systems. It has aged very well and looks good.'
