Kingspan Steel Building Solutions has invested £1.4 million in a state-of-the-art production line at its Walsall manufacturing facility.

This enhances their capacity and capability to meet the growing market demand within the storage, handling and distribution sector.

The new 60m-long rolling line is dedicated to the production of the Kingspan Sigma mezzanine platforms, ideal for offices, warehouses, and retail and industrial units. The modern machinery has not only improved the average production speed by 60%, but also offers customers a wide variety of new product options.

In addition to rolling a greater size range of products in thicknesses of up to 3.00mm, it can process a higher grade of steel which provides the greater material strength necessary for more strenuous applications. Colour-printed products are also now available which, along with increased flexibility when positioning holes for services, will enable Kingspan Steel Building Solutions to tailor every detail to a project’s exact requirements

The new machinery also has the in-line capacity to produce short, stub lengths and additional hole punching, removing the need for secondary processing and less manual handling for operators. Furthermore, its advanced design has led to a 65% reduction in product changeover and set-up times and has helped to reduce overall scrap rates to just 2%− a 3% decrease from the previous line.
