Polyflor’s Camaro PUR LVT Transforms Period Home

Within this leafy Greater Manchester suburb, Camaro PUR luxury vinyl tile (LVT) breathed new life into a magnificent period home when it came under new ownership. Its ground floor was renovated and then redecorated, including new parquet flooring designs from Polyflor that lifted the eye-catching décor whilst accentuating its much-loved original features.

Jody and Sherry, the proud owners of this period property, opted to blend modern living with historic detailing.

The remarkable transformation of their home resulted in an attractive series of open-plan spaces to complement its unique appearance and bold architecture.

In its renovated form, the property now offers an expansive communal space for their family, consisting of their beloved children and dog, Millie.

Their sizable, detached property is in Prestwich, a thriving commuter town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, near the River Irwell.

Jody, a recruitment consultancy director, and his partner, Sherry, an artist, initially fell in love with the area and its rich historical heritage. Upon securing their dream home, they saw the design potential within every room.

“We were genuinely doing cartwheels in the garden when we bought the house,” recalls Sherry.

“We had always wanted to live in this area and had always wanted a period property. It is the best of both worlds. The modern features, such as the kitchen skylight, provide a welcome airy feel, whilst elsewhere there are so many little historic quirks that we love.”

The house undertook a complete ground floor renovation, revitalising the original features throughout its interior and extending the kitchen to create an expansive, multi-functional space.

Sherry utilised her artistic flair whilst overseeing the interior design of their home. She took inspiration from illustrated forestry wallpaper, natural elements, and unconventional furniture.

The beautiful merging of these varied ideas helped to create a memorable home focused on family togetherness and relaxation.

The finished aesthetic of the ground floor is quirky yet cosy, simultaneously appealing to the homeowners and their children. When walking across the refreshed space, a tastefully considered spectrum of colour is visible at every turn.

From the outset, Jody and Sherry knew that the enhanced kitchen area would become the heart of their home.

As such, it required a warm, traditional shade of flooring to connect it with the nearby partitioned dining room and the stylish snug, both heightened by a glorious hallway boasting characterful stained-glass windows.

The chosen LVT needed to flow across each area to create a consistently beautiful living space across the ground floor.

The couple sought flooring which effortlessly matched the modern décor and historic features on display.

Whilst this was a tall order, the versatile design within the Camaro collection lent itself perfectly to both aesthetics.

As they searched online, Cambridge Parquet (2251), from the Camaro PUR collection, became an early contender due to its complementary tones. It held the authentic appearance of a wooden parquet, complete with realistic plank variation and micro beveling.

When visiting a like-minded friend in Wales who had installed Cambridge Parquet within their bustling holiday home, they were impressed with its allure and endurance. Following their trip, Jody and Sherry selected the same shade for installation throughout the ground floor of their home.

Phoenix Flooring, Manchester, were consulted on the project at an early stage and completed the flooring installation.

Simon Peers, Business Owner, noted the compelling characteristics of each room, from the skylight over the kitchen island to the hallway alcoves. To enhance the impact of Cambridge Parquet, he recommended that Jody and Sherry add a double plank parquet border, with a Maple Marquetry (2056) strip, as the perfect finishing touch.

The installed borders complemented the curvature of the walls, with room features ensuring that the flooring remained as unique as the property itself.

The Camaro collection was developed specifically for residential properties, offering enhanced durability and easy-to-clean product construction.

When considering the best flooring option for their busy family home, Sherry, the project designer, balanced these practical features with their desirable appearance.

“The floor in our previous house was a dark colour - and I love dark-coloured flooring - but every dust particle showed up on it,” she explains.

“When we moved into this house, the previous owners had installed a lighter, textured oak floor. Whilst I did not love it personally, the saving grace was that it always looked clean despite being lighter in colour. When replacing the flooring, we were happy with Camaro in this respect.”

Upon reflection, Sherry acknowledges that her approach to design involved following her creative instincts.

“Do not worry about what is in fashion or what may become fashionable,” she explains.

“Just do what you love. That is what I was trying to do because, that way, I know I will love it forever.”

"The redesign is just what I wanted. I like traditional, but I also love modern, and this perfectly summarises how the house now feels when moving from room to room. I like to take inspiration from both as they can perfectly fit together."
