PYRANOVA®: SCHOTT's Advanced Fire-Resistant Glass Solutions

PYRANOVA®: SCHOTT's Advanced Fire-Resistant Glass Solutions

SCHOTT Technical Glass Solutions GmbH is a leading manufacturer of fire-resistant glazing with a strong international reputation. Known under the brands PYRAN® and PYRANOVA®, SCHOTT provides special glass for reliable, transparent fire-resistant glazing in order to guarantee safety, functionality and aesthetics.

PYRANOVA® special glass for fire-resistant glazing is a clear, laminated composite glass, consisting of several thin float glass panes. A transparent fire-resistant layer, which foams in the case of fire, is incorporated between the panes. PYRANOVA® special glass for fire-resistant glazing prevents the passage of fire, smoke and heat radiation.

PYRANOVA® special glass is used in fire-resistant glazing offering a rating from EI 30 and up to EI 120.

PYRANOVA® special glass for interior & exterior applications
Clear composite safety glass for fire-resistant glazing can be incorporated in double-glazing, sand blasted, partially or completely printed, to provide a wide range of fire-resistant glazing options.

Only last week the UK Government announced the withdrawal of the National fire testing standards from Approved Document B for fire resistance with transition period of five years. This means only the European fire test standards will be accepted. It is therefore worthwhile to summarise that according to EN classification 13501-2 the fire resistance performance is expressed by letters explaining the functional requirement, and numbers explaining the minimum performance time in minutes:

E: Integrity – provides a physical barrier against flame, hot gases and smoke.
EI: Integrity & insulation – provides a physical barrier against flame, hot gases and smoke as well as a reduced surface temperature and resistance against spontaneous ignition on the unexposed side.
EW: Provides a physical barrier against flame, hot gases and smoke and offers reduced heat radiation. EW performance is not recognised in UK Building Regulations.

For example, EI 60 equates to 60 minutes integrity & 60 minutes insulation.

As well as meeting the exacting fire performance classification it is worthwhile remembering that the glass can stocked and cut to size locally, which means faster delivery times to the factory or construction site.

The following UK & Ireland partners are approved to process PYRANOVA fire resisting glass:
