Ruregold's systems for structural reinforcement with FRCM composite materials in PBO were used for the restoration, consolidation and restoration of the Oratory of SS. Annunziata in Colorno, in the province of Parma. The oratory, built in 1568 and rebuilt in 1720, is located in one of the areas affected by the 2012 earthquake that struck the territory of the Emilian Po Valley. The building suffered significant damage to the bell towers and the wooden parts of the bells' movement parts.
Ruregold's interventions have been able to combine effective materials in terms of safety and complex techniques, while keeping the integrity and value of the place intact.
Structural and anti-seismic reinforcement
A package consisting of PBO-Mesh 22-22 in PBO fiber and MX-PBO masonry, a cement-based fiber-based inorganic matrix, was used for the anti-seismic safety of the building, which was flanked by the PBO-Joint connection system, the PBO fiber staple connector and MX-JOINT inorganic matrix developed for use in Ruregold FRCM systems.
The intervention, divided into several phases, involves the peeling of the plaster in the upper part of the towers, followed by the restoration of the damaged and cracked parts of the four pillars making up each tower with the "unstitch-sew" technique after removal, cleaning and washing of the detached parts, restoration of the bedding mortar with hydraulic lime mortar type NHL 3.5 class M5, reusing the same ashlars if possible and taking care to restore the bites.
The pillars of the consolidated roof units were wrapped with the PBO-Mesh 22-22 mesh embedded in the MX-PBO Muratura mortar and integrated by the PBO-Joint staple connectors with MX-JOINT inorganic matrix.
The surface was then finished with specific mortar for lime-based restorations and a glaze with colours of the same shade as the building.
