A vibrant and dynamic campus at West Hertfordshire College in Watford is the result of a new, state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility boasting the latest technology and a unique ‘street’ that is open to the public.

The campus redevelopment and new build by BAM Construction utilises a number of Reynaers Aluminium systems with architects The Weedon Partnership, specifying Reynaers CW50 Structurally Clamped Curtain Walling to provide an uninterrupted and visually impressive façade that maximises natural light entry.

Conscious too of the sustainability requirements of the building from the outset the architects designed the campus to maximise internal space in order to facilitate the wide range of activities.

The building utilises Low-E glass in order to minimise solar gain during the day, solar panels are incorporated in the green roof for heating purposes and rainwater harvesting and re-use is in place resulting in a building that boasts a low carbon footprint.

High performance, aesthetically pleasing Reynaers Eco 50 window systems feature throughout the college while perfectly dovetailing into the overall design of the building. The Eco system is specifically designed for ease of installation, helping to reduce fabrication costs.

Constantly in use, Vision 50 doors combine style with durability, easily meeting the heavy usage requirements associated with campus installations. Fabricators on the project were Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium.

Unusually, the college boasts a ‘street’ of facilities open to the general public featuring café, gym, spa, restaurant and spacious recreational areas, with gardens, courtyards and a central atrium. In addition, there are a number of dedicated open spaces for art and culture exhibitions for the community.
