Reynaers Aluminium has announced that three of its products have received the ‘Cradle to Cradle’ (C2C) bronze certification. The sustainable certification system awards products that support the ‘circular economy’- a model of production and consumption which involves methods such as reusing and recycling existing materials and products.
Awarded by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, the certification reflects Reynaers’ commitment to using sustainably produced aluminium and improving its environmental impact. Companies undergo a rigorous six-step assessment to ensure that their products meet the ambitious standards of the certification system which evaluates products across five sustainability focus areas including: renewable energy, clean air and climate protection, and social fairness.
Reynaers uses low carbon primary aluminium and recycled aluminium for all its systems. Its certified products not only offer aesthetic value and durability, they also ensure high-quality insulation credentials. Aluminium windows and doors have an average lifecycle of over 40 years making it 100% recyclable which reduces CO2 emissions by 8 tonnes per tonne of aluminium. This offers architects, specifiers, and fabricators the opportunity to provide environmentally conscious solutions to their customers.
The three newly certified products are: MasterPatio, CW 86 -EF, and Masterline 8 doors, taking the total number of its C2C certified products to 12. To reduce C02 emissions, the MasterPatio lift-slide system is made using recycled insulation bars, whilst the CW 86 -EF used for structural and cassette glazing, enables high execution speeds on-site. The MasterLine 8 Panel Doors add further credibility to Reynaers’ as a developer of sustainable aluminium systems with its Passive House Institute certification.
Reynaers is an active member of European Aluminium. As the global demand for aluminium is expected to increase by 50% by 2050, the organisation has set its ‘Vision 2050’ objectives to help the sector to realise its full potential for decarbonisation and as a member, Reynaers is contributing to a goal which will impact future generations.
Marijke Rymenants, Sustainability Expert at Reynaers Aluminium, said: “We are delighted to add a further three products to our Cradle-to-Cradle-certified range. Reynaers recognises that the glazing industry needs to take responsibility for the levels of C02 emissions it contributes by producing and importing aluminium. With client demand for higher environmental standards on the increase, we can respond perfectly as aluminium is 100% recyclable and has a long service life. By having more of our products certified with Cradle to Cradle we are showing our customers that we are dedicated to meeting those standards.”
