A perfect blend of Reynaers aluminium fenestration products feature on 50 St Mary Axe, a prestigious office development for Frogmore, prominently located in the heart of the City of London. Situated on the corner of Bevis Marks and St Mary Axe, formerly the site of the National Bank of Greece, the imposing building comprises a seven storey block with single basement.
Office accommodation is at a premium in this prime location and architects, Black Architecture, have maximised the use of the 4,400m2 of floor space available. A central core houses a spiral staircase and two lifts while compact super-loos are on each level. The offices are fitted out to category A and have achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating, within the constraints of the building envelope.
Portland stone was selected for the buildings exterior in response to the adjoining listed Baltic Exchange. Main contractors on the project were GB Building Solutions, while fabricators, Faberdex, installed all the Reynaers CW50 curtain walling and CS68 doors at ground level, together with CS38 windows throughout all in a bronze anodised finish, which perfectly complements the buildings limestone façade.
Reynaers CW50 is a popular choice for commercial applications as it offers unlimited creative freedom and allows maximum entrance of light into the building. Any combination of vertical and inclined planes is possible and the system provides 11 individual styles with various outside appearances.
The same flexibility is offered by CS68 doors which are also available in a variety of aesthetic shapes to match current architectural styles. The thermally improved three chamber system boasts the optimum combination of high insulation levels and optimal safety. Double butt strips between the frame and vent and lowered drainage ensure superior wind and water tightness.
Also featuring the three chamber system, Reynaers CS38 windows are designed to combine elegance and elevated strength with energy efficiency. All types of inward and outward opening vents are available and the systems slender exterior contours make it ideal for new build developments such as St Mary Axe.
Reynaers UK Head of Sales, Paul Duffy, commented: St Mary Axe is an excellent example of the versatility of Reynaers Aluminium fenestration systems. We were able to fulfil the brief for this project because, not only do our products meet the stringent requirements necessary for a high specification building, but we were able to supply them in a finish which blended perfectly with the façade and its surroundings. The result is a highly prestigious development in which we are delighted to have played a part.
