Ronacrete has provided 880 square metres of its RonaDeck Resin Bound Surfacing to paths and entrances at a new hospital in Cockermouth. A new community hospital was opened in Cockermouth in January 2014, this replaced the 100 year old building which had been hit by severe flooding in 2009 and GP services had to operate from temporary buildings. Ronacrete Approved Contractor Route One Highways was appointed to lay 880 square metres of RonaDeck Resin Bound Surfacing to the paths leading up to the hospital entrance and those providing access to the landscaped gardens. The aggregate blend Choc Chip Harvest was chosen for this project, this blend includes a wide variety of aggregate shades.

The RonaDeck Resin Bound Surfacing System was supplied as a two-component UV stable polyurethane resin; the two components were mixed with a slow speed drill and paddle before being added to a forced action mixer containing the aggregate blend. The RonaDeck Resin Bound Surfacing was spread to level at a depth of 15mm by Route One Highways and the surface was smoothed with a steel float.

RonaDeck Resin Bound Surfacing is suitable for wheel chairs and is slip-resistant; it also complies with SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) requirements. The porous surface allows rainwater to quickly and easily drain through into the earth beneath if it is part of a SuDS compliant system. By reducing the rate of rainwater run off SuDS can reduce the risk of overall flooding. A SUDS system is particularly beneficial during extreme weather when conventional drains cannot keep up with the water flow.
