The Port of Montréal Tower, standing 65 meters tall, offers stunning panoramic views of both Montréal and the St. Lawrence River in Québec, Canada.
Designed by Provencher_Roy, the tower has become an iconic addition to the Old Port, providing unparalleled vistas of the city and river. Serving as a visual beacon, it acts as a landmark for both residents and visitors, symbolizing the city's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Due to the tower’s height, the glass had to withstand wind loads of up to 63 PSF in certain areas. Initially, monolithic glass was considered for the IGUs, but it was too thin. SentryGlas® was ultimately chosen to laminate the glazing, reducing deflection and meeting wind load requirements. The final IGUs consist of 10mm tempered SGG Coolite XTREME 70/33, an 18mm spacer, and heat-strengthened Pilkington Optiwhite in a 10mm / 6mm SentryGlas® laminate.
A standout feature of the design is the all-glass visitor space at the top of the tower, offering 360-degree views without metal supports. The four-ply floor, composed of insulating glass units, prevents condensation and freezing, making it perfect for the local climate. The cantilevered façade and self-supporting glass structure showcase the strength and beauty of glass as a building material.
