SentryGlas® strength and clarity at Glacier Skywalk

SentryGlas® strength and clarity at Glacier Skywalk

SentryGlas® by Kuraray – Trosifol® was used at the iconic Glacier Skywalk in Sunwapta Valley, Canada.

The design concept called for a structure that was an extension of the surrounding environment and that not detract from the beauty of the site.

The Glacier Skywalk is a 35m cantilevered glassfloor observation platform, situated 280m above Sunwapta Valley.
SentryGlas® interlayers were used to combine sympathetic aesthetics with vital strength.

Brewster Travel Canada worked with Sturgess Architecture and structural engineers Read Jones Christofferson Engineering to develop the project.

PCL Construction specified SentryGlas® laminated panels from German company Josef Gartner GmBH who used BGT Bischoff Glastechnik AG to laminate the panels.

John Kooymans, Principal at Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd commented: "SentryGlas® offers better post-breakage behavior and performs better in exterior climate conditions, it is also stronger and stiffer than other laminates on the market. We try to use it for all critical post-breakage conditions and overhead glass. It allows for less or thinner lites, which can be more complementary to the surrounding structures."
