Timber windows & doors Victorian conversion

Timber windows & doors Victorian conversion

Made-to-order, period-style timber windows and doors from Lomax + Wood have been chosen for a complex conversion of The Book House, once the offices of the Wandsworth District Board of Works, to 17 private apartments.

Elegant wooden sash and casement windows from the Kensington & Chelsea range by Lomax + Wood have been manufactured and installed as part of this expansive upgrade. The dated interior has been stripped out apart from the impressive entrance hall and the sweeping wrought iron staircase. However many architectural and historic features have been replicated including oversized architraves and skirtings. The 4m high ceilings have been retained and double glazed Kensington & Chelsea windows of large proportions provide light filled lateral apartments.

A combination of tall outward opening casement windows, with beautiful arched head fixed fan lights at first floor level, capture the original appearance of this building; many rooms have the advantage of a triple and double aspect windows.

Andrew Goding, sales director, Lomax + Wood, said : "It’s wonderful to see how this 4-storey building has been brought back to life. Now The Book House, with its impressive clock tower, has embarked on a new chapter as a chic ‘members’ club’–style development fusing history with a fashionable and contemporary style of renovation.”
