Project: Dulwich College Science Building, London
Architects: Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners

Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners has won permission for a new science block at the Dulwich School in London.

The building is part of a £20.5m John McAslan & Partners’ masterplan for the site and is the first project to mark the public school’s 400th anniversary in 2019.

Named The Laboratory, it will replace an existing 1950s facility. The plan is to demolish the existing building and replace it with a reversed S shape building.

At the centre of the eastern wing of the building will be the three-storey James Caird Hall, providing access to all senior laboratories with north-facing roof lights and a glazed wall facing the college’s formal lawns and the war memorial.

The project also includes a 260-capacity, multi-purpose auditorium with views of the southern campus and the Lower School. Principal teaching rooms face east and west.
