Reynaers Aluminium curtain walling system and windows and door systems are used on Penallta House, the new flagship building and headquarters that brings together services of Caerphilly County Borough Council that were previously accommodated in three separate buildings.

Not only are the main council offices housed in the building but it also accommodates the Civic Office for the Mayor and councillors and is the main location for meetings of the Council.

Prestigious in design, the architects on the project, Powell Dobson Architects, created a highly functional building that incorporates an impressive curtain walling frontage along with a central atrium that generates significant amounts of natural light within the building. Behind the frontage is the largest customer service centre in the county providing full access to a comprehensive range of council services. The building opens out to a modern office development housing over 240 full-time council employees in addition to providing the meeting facilities for the elected councillors.

The construction meets the highest environmental standards incorporating a ‘ground heat source facility’ providing an environmentally friendly way of heating and cooling the building, reducing the council’s carbon footprint and leading to significant energy cost savings.

Installation of the Reynaers CW50 curtain wall system throughout the back and sides of the building, along with the windows and doors which utilised Reynaers CS68 thermally improved, three-chamber system was specified by the architects. Manufacture and installation was carried out by Glamalco.

“By managing many different services under one roof we are able to deliver more improved and cost effective services to our residents,” said Councillor Harry Andrews, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The development has also paved the way for the commencement of the building of a new multi-million pound hospital development on the site of the former council offices.
