Troax Steel Partitioning Creates Welding Booths for Machine Tool Manufacturer Yamazaki Mazak

Troax’s double skin, steel partitioning system, Elan (formerly Excalibur), has been used to construct a series of welding booths at Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd’s European manufacturing plant in Worcester. Mazak is the world’s largest supplier of CNC lathes, machine tools and manufacturing systems and its Worcester plant exports to customers in over 30 European countries.

The welding booths were installed at the factory as part of investment programme to extend floor space (which now totals 29,000 sq metres), install new production equipment and increase production capacity.

Troax’s modular Excalibur partitioning system was used by contractor MPC Systems to construct the blocks of welding booths within the newly relocated sheet metal department. Each booth has two parallel sides constructed from Excalibur, while poly strip curtains have been fitted at either end to form an entrance and exit from the booth.

Excalibur’s double-skinned construction made it ideal for this project as it allowed electrical cables to be fed down through the cavity between the steel skins to accommodate the installation of new computer systems within each of the welding boothes. Computer screens have also been mounted on the partitioning which would not have been possible using a single skin partitioning system.

The partitioning has the added advantage that its double skin design (which is of monobloc construction comprising two steel skins separated by an inert mineral wool insulating infill) offers excellent sound and heat insulation properties. The high quality powder coated paint finish also makes it a very durable and hardwearing system for this type of industrial environment.

This is the latest of a number of projects that MPC Systems has carried out for Yamazaki Mazak using Troax partitioning systems.

Some of the most recent include the construction of a two storey office block within the factory, also using Excalibur, and the installation of a protective wall within racking in a storage facility on the site. The wall was constructed using Troax’s single skin Sabre panel system which acts as an anti-collapse system to prevent items falling from racking and injuring personnel.
