Type of works: supplied Steel Mesh Barriers (SMB), and Adjustable Safety Posts.
When the firm constructing Swedens tallest hotel needed a solution to their safety at height issues, they turned to the market-leader in the arena, Combisafe.
For the engineers at the Scandic Victoria Towers development, working to the highest standards of safety was a prerequisite during construction of the 117 metres tall building. They needed a lightweight solution that did not require a crane to be used for installation so consulted with the Combisafe engineering team at the earliest stage to ensure the most appropriate, safe and cost-effective system was used.
Martin Henriksson, Site Manager for Peab: It was important that with many trades on site we found a safety system that would protect the workers at height, as well as those working below from falling objects and debris. The Steel Mesh Barriers and Safety Net Fans from Combisafe provided a bespoke and lightweight safety solution that was quick and easy to install and met all of our fall prevention and edge protection requirements.
Combisafe found an innovative solution which saw 700 Steel Mesh Barriers (SMB), and Adjustable Safety Posts used. The posts act as holders for the system and can be set to the required height. Using a special Quiclox locking mechanism makes installation easy and safe, and saves valuable time and manpower on-site.
The SMB system comprises guardrail, toeboard and netting in one product and was installed around the buildings 12 lower floors using both wall and slab attachments. The SMB is a lightweight, versatile solution that was perfect to accommodate the different edge protection needs of the various tradesmen, throughout all stages of the two-year project.
To protect pedestrians and workers on the lower levels from falling debris Combisafe Safety Net Fans were used. They consist of two steel brackets which allow a projection range of three metres from the building. The mesh density of the protection net is 100 x 100mm and is tested and approved in accordance with EN 1263 the European standard for Safety Nets.
