As part of our focus on underfloor heating we wanted to explore the fascinating and inspirational projects featured here on Barbour Product Search. In no particular order, here are some of our favourites:
Tree House Holiday Home
Nu-Heat supplied underfloor heating for a luxury tree house holiday home in 2015. Due to the odd, octagonal space of the building owners, Kate and Steve Rucklidge, wanted to make the most of the floor space which they were able to do by installing an underfloor heating system.
Nu-Heat's ClippaPlate™ system was installed. ClippaPlate™ is an aluminium heat spreader plate that holds the UFH tube flush against the floor deck.
Groomes Country House
This Grade 2 listed country house was given a modern make over in 2016 in order to convert the site into a luxury hotel. As part of these renovations, plumbing and indoor climate solutions provider, Uponor Ltd were chosen to supply underfloor heating to the hotel.
Owner Pete Dale chose to install an underfloor heating system so that Groomes could offer spacious and discreetly heated rooms. He installed the system himself with help from Uponor Ltd’s training academy.
Premier House
Thermogroup Ltd were part of the redevelopment of Premier House; a 1970s office building transformed into luxury apartments. They supplied their Thermogoil PRO electric underfloor heating system after the client struggled to find a wet underfloor heating system with minimal height build-up.
Thermogroup were able to supply a system with acoustic sound reduction properties as well as minimal height build-up for the 13 floor apartment block.
Driveway heating in Ascot
In 2016, Heat Mat supplied their ramp heating system for a new Englemere development by Millgate Homes in Ascot, Berkshire. A driveway heating system that is installed directly under hot asphalt with an output of 300W/m2 and a 48Amp frost protection thermostat.
The under-driveway heating system enables residents to access the development year-round.
Ten Trinity Square
Electric underfloor heating was supplied by Thermogroup Ltd for Grade 2 listed Ten Trinity Square, during renovations to provide hotel suites and residential apartments. They provided a complete underfloor heating system including insulation and acoustics. The old Port of London Authority Building was transformed into a Four Seasons hotel and spa in 2016.
Hastings Pier
Newly reopened in 2016, Hastings Pier underwent a £14.2m refurbishment since its closure in 2010. The Pavilion Restaurant and Bar located on the pier required a light-weight underfloor heating solution. After determining that a traditional wet system would be too heavy the client specified Heat Mat to provide a light electric underfloor heating system.
The system was laid as a 3mm heating cable and 160W heating mats, supplied after loading calculations were completed. Meat Mat also supplied their NGTouch colour thermostats.
Subterranean Home
Nu-Heat were selected to provide a pumped liquid screed underfloor heating system for an underground home. Clients, James and Corina Barrett selected an underfloor heating system in order to conserve space and eliminate the difficulty in placing radiators in a mostly-glazed home.
Eco-Home
Gordon and Joyce Perrie designed their dream, upside-down oak framed eco house, in the village of Trottiscliffe, Kent. In order to make their home as efficient as possible they chose to install an air source heat pump teamed with an underfloor heating system.
Nu-Heat provided a zoned underfloor heating system with integrated 10kW air source heat pump.
Kaleidoscope, Cambridge
A total of 408 apartments were constructed at Cambridge housing development, Kaleidoscope. Each apartment was equipped with underfloor heating by JG Speedfit.
The development includes 50 different house types from penthouses to social housing, 1 and 2 bed apartments and glass walled living areas.
