Brough Relief Road Phase 3

Brough Relief Road Phase 3

Project Details
Material Specification
SHW Clause 803 Type 1 Subbase IBAA and Type 1 Subbase Limestone Blend .

Overview
The project has involved the construction of the final section of new link road across the old Brough Aerodrome site to join Skillings Lane with Moor Road, creating a new route for traffic to help ease congestion in Brough town centre . The scheme received £6.5M of funding to construct the new 800m road, which consisted of dedicated footpaths and cycleways, railway overbridge and new roundabout with the aim to generate economic growth, improve the local area and divert HGV traffic from Brough town centre.

Supply Period
May 2021 November 2022
Construction
12,000 tonnes of SHW Clause 803 Type 1 Subbase IBAA ( Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate) and Limestone was supplied from our Blue Phoenix Ferrybridge plant in Knottingley, Wakefield.
The material was placed and compacted in accordance with SHW 800 series to a depth of depth 300mm forming part of the pavement foundation layer, which was subsequently covered with 240mm of asphalt on the carriageways.
The scheme met the requirements necessary to be adopted by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Benefits & Sustainability
In addition to a lower Co2e per tonne, IBAA has a lower density than Limestone and Granite
which adds additional carbon savings when you choose IBAA.
These benefits are demonstrated in the table below which summarises the reduction in
tonnage required to supply this contract when compared to a 100% primary alternative.

The amount of CO2e saved by using IBAA Limestone Blend compared to a like-for-like alternative Primary Aggregate is approximately 77,490kg.

The lower density of the IBAA equates to 78 less HGV journeys. Based on a distance of 25 miles, the CO2e reduction would be equivalent to 2,964kg.
