Bespoke wall protection from contract interior specialist Gradus is creating a fun and attractive atmosphere at a state-of-the-art new medical facility, while also ensuring excellent hygiene and low maintenance costs.

Evelina London Children’s Day Treatment Centre, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, has been built to provide more life-changing care for children and young people with rare and complex conditions.

Overseen by Morgan Sindall, the project saw Gradus collaborate with Art in Site - a London-based studio of artists, designers and strategists – and ADP Architecture, to create a wall cladding solution with integrated art that helps the hospital’s young patients to heal, learn and thrive.

Design for healing

The result of close collaboration between Gradus, Art in Site and ADP Architecture, the wall cladding solution presents an attractive image of a rocket taking off against a colourful and soothing background, while children fly around it.

Not only is the wall cladding visually attractive, but it also provides considerable practical benefit.

The design is printed on SureProtect Artworx and SureProtect Pure hygienic wall protection, a comprehensive wall cladding system that offers excellent surface protection. Specifically designed for areas where cleanliness is a priority, the cladding creates an impenetrable barrier to moisture and bacteria along with resistance to impact damage.

The smooth, easy-to-clean surface is also an ideal alternative to ceramic tiles, since it removes the need for grout, which can harbour bacteria.

In addition, Gradus’s Contracts Team installed stainless steel corner guards throughout the hospital. The corner guards are hygienic, corrosion- resistant, easy to clean, bacteria-inhibiting – again making them ideal for a healthcare environment.
