Gradus has recently installed its market-leading Wall Protection systems in the new NHS Rainbow Community Hub in Elland, West Yorkshire, which provides healthcare for young people with complex healthcare needs.

The Hub is based in the historic Clock House building on Huddersfield Road and is run by the local healthcare Trust, the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. The new family-friendly facility, formally opened in April, offers state-of-the art and welcoming environment for all.

The two-storey facility has an outdoor play area, outpatient and therapy treatment rooms, a play assessment area and sensory room on the lower level and office space for specialist nursing community teams on the upper level.

The new healthcare hub – halfway between Huddersfield and Halifax - is filled with state-of-the-art technology and amazing facilities for young patients with developmental conditions.

To bring a vibrant design to life Gradus SureProtect Artworx Bespoke Printed Sheets were installed in the communal and circulation areas within the building. Taking inspiration from nature, the intricate design replicates green trees to provide a calming atmosphere for the Hub. The Gradus contracts team’s experience came in handy for this job, as they worked hard to ensure that the delicate print pattern lined up correctly to give the desired effect across the walls.

To enhance texture and biophilic design, SureProtect Design Wood wall panels were cut to bespoke curved shapes and placed in the waiting areas, helping to connect users of the hub to nature. Traditional half-height panels were also installed in some of the patient rooms. The use of SureProtect Design wood effect wall cladding allows clinical environments like the Rainbow Community Hub to have a cosier and more inviting atmosphere.

SureProtect Endure, a through coloured and textured impact resistant PVC-u sheet was chosen for the treatment areas due to its durability. It is easy to clean and provides a cost-effective way to reduce maintenance costs and protect the appearance of a building.

Lastly, Gradus supplied and installed SureProtect Pure hygienic wall cladding system in wet room areas within the Hub. SureProtect Pure is specifically designed for areas where cleanliness is a priority, creating an impenetrable barrier to moisture and bacteria, along with resistance to impact damage. The smooth, easy to clean surface is an ideal alternative to ceramic tiles as it removes the need for grout which can harbour bacteria.
