This reinforced concrete technical tower with a total height of 157 meters required renovation due to the poor condition of the structure. In particular, the outlined core of the tower had to be strengthened in the range from 82 m to 122 m in height.

Traditional techniques of structural reinforcement based on the use of steel tie rods and sections or FRP methods using epoxy resins and glass or carbon tapes and mats have been replaced by a modern PBO Fiber FRCM composite system by RUREGOLD. The advantage of the PBO-MESH system over other reinforcement techniques is a low weight, small size, resistance to fire and corrosion, the possibility of using in humid conditions and a wide range of temperatures, easy and non-invasive application and safety for humans and the environment.

For the renovation of the cracked reinforced concrete structure of the tower, a one-way PBO-MESH 88 (formerly RUREGOLD XT CALCESTRUZZO) reinforcing mesh made of 50 cm wide PBO synthetic fibers and a dedicated mineral, polymer-modified MX-PBO Concrete mounting mortar were used. On the section of 40m, 40 reinforcing belts were made at intervals of 50cm. The material, normally available in rolls with a length of 15m, were individually adapted to the specific project and delivered in a length of 16m, which allowed the tower to be wrapped in one section of mesh and avoided additional joints and material losses.

The implementation time was of great importance when it comes to the selection of reinforcement technology. Thanks to the quick and simple application of the RUREGOLD PBO-MESH system, the time in which the facility was out of use has been significantlyshortened.
