Rock Mineral Wool Insulation
Knauf Insulation’s Rock Mineral Wool insulation solutions are mainly made from volcanic rock, typically basalt and/or dolomite. An increasing proportion is now recycled material from slag, a waste product from blast furnaces.
The raw materials are melted and then spun into fine strands of wool. A binder is used to bind the wool together to form a mat of insulation, which is then cut into slabs or wired mattresses. Most of Knauf Insulation’s Rock Mineral Wool products use their ECOSE® Technology bio-based binder.
Some of the benefits of using Rock Mineral Wool over other insulants include:
a. Euroclass A1 non-combustible reaction to fire classification
b. Can be compression packed to limit transport and warehouse requirements
c. Available in slabs AND rolls*
d. Available in wired mattresses
e. A variety of facings can be applied to be more aesthetically pleasing
f. Suitable for residential AND commercial buildings whether they’re new builds or refurbishments
g. Suitable for fire protection
*Fire-teK Wired Mattress Only
