Schueco Façades at Torre Telefonica
With 25 stories, this expressive, 110-meter- high skyscraper, “Torre Telefónica” in Barcelona, houses the headquarters of the multinational telephone company as well as the company’s research and development department, which is among the most progressive in the country.
The sharply defined form and the pure white of the unique façade give the tower a clear, yet dynamic appearance. The delicate network of crossing veins on the aluminum unitized façade, Schüco USC 65, on the prism-shaped volume enables light to enter the clearly structured building dynamically and contributes to the load transfer. To additionally enhence the appearance of the façade, the all-glass façade elements were given a vertical, white silkscreen structure. The façade surprises the viewer by constantly changing its appearance, dependent of weather and light.
The interior of the building is impressive due to the support-free surfaces and large openings – for example, a 40-meter-high atrium. Slender reinforced concrete slabs transfer the weight to an interior core, guaranteeing maximum freedom in the interior spatial arrangement.
