Truro Eastern District Recycling Centre – Cornwall

Material Specification
3,750 tonnes of SHW 600 Class 1A
5,000 tonnes of SHW Clause 803 Type 1

Project
Structural platform for recycling centre with access roads and car park.

Client
Suez Recycling and Recovery UK Limited

Delivery Partner
Dawnus Construction Limited

Construction
IBAA was supplied from Blue Phoenix, Cornwall Plant at St Dennis, this material has been used in creating the structural platform for the project. The supplied IBAA has contributed 40% of the total imported material requirements for the project (Class 1A). The platform depth when placed ranges from between 7m in the deepest section to 1m in the shallowest section.

Type 1 has been used underneath the surface materials (Concrete and Asphalt). Due to the large amount of imported Class 1A in the platform, the Type 1 capping layer only required placing at a depth of 150mm. The concrete and asphalt surfacing requirement are 250mm thickness over the Type 1.

Benefit
IBAA is an extremely cost-effective material when compared to Primary Aggregates and BP UK is working towards a verified Carbon Footprint.
There are also advantages logistically when using IBAA due to the low density of the material allowing for fewer vehicle movements as this gives volumetric advantages over primary materials.
