This large-scale renovation project features slimline aluminium systems by Reynaers Aluminium UK. Perched on the edge of the English Channel, Waters Edge is a home that has been designed to maximise the stunning sea views with an array of Reynaers’ windows and doors opening out onto the sprawling Devon coastline.
Reynaers systems used:
- SlimLine 68 (SL 68) windows
- ConceptPatio 130 (CP 130) Lift and Slide doors
- ConceptSystem 77 (CS 77) door
With performance a major consideration due to the maritime location, Reynaers slimline aluminium systems were used throughout the property to provide a seamless integration of contemporary aesthetics and functionality – and to retain both visual appeal and comfort in the face of the coastal weather.
Located in the harbourside town of Torquay, Waters Edge is a stunning coastal property boasting expansive sea views. The goal of its renovation was to combine contemporary aesthetics, the idyllic location and product functionality that would meet the challenges of both a restoration project and a coastal location.
Over the past three years the private residential house has been transformed to maximise the natural charm of the South Devon coastline in which it sits. With unbeatable views, the homeowners wanted to harness the abundance of natural light with contemporary windows and doors, allowing them to bring the outside in.
The added challenge of this refurbishment project was securing products that would work in a renovation project, as well as in an exposed coastal location. Inspired by Reynaers’ high performance, sustainability-led products, the homeowners chose Reynaers at Home partner Aspect Windows to help bring their vision to life.
Working closely with the homeowners and the architect to meet the design specification, Aspect Windows was also able to make use of the comprehensive technical support offered by Reynaers to ensure performance demands were met.
Making the most of the natural light was a key driver of the renovation and 18 Reynaers SlimLine 68 (SL 68) windows were installed to maximise the light throughout the property.
SL 68 combines contemporary design with durability and versatility. Its 68mm frame depth made it ideal for the renovation as it fits into existing window lines, allowing installers to maintain the aesthetics of the existing property, and reducing the possibility of project disruption. Without compromising on the contemporary design of the renovation, SL 68 provided a significant upgrade in terms of weather resistance and thermal insulation, supporting both longevity and more sustainable energy use; this system being able to achieve a U-value as low as 1.1 W/m2 K.
To seamlessly integrate the uninterrupted ocean views, Aspects Windows supplied and installed seven Reynaers ConceptPatio 130 (CP 130) Lift and Slide doors into the property. Chosen for their ability to bring the outside in, the expansive glass panels maximise natural light while the low threshold option subtly integrated the house and patio.
A series of CP 130 sliding doors take centre stage at the rear of the Waters Edge property, where the clear lines open onto the horizon. An ideal choice for the location, CP 130 provides impressive weather resistance ensuring a resilience to high wind and rain. CP 130 also offers excellent thermal efficiency, while strong acoustic performance offers noise reduction, ensuring that the property is well protected from the elements.
The stunning aesthetics to the rear of the home were completed with the incorporation of three gable frames above the sliding door systems. Ideal for bespoke renovations to capture the character of a home, the standout feature frames were expertly installed by Aspect Windows to ensure water tightness and thermal performance while defining the exterior of the property.
To complement the suite of Reynaers’ products, the company’s ConceptSystem 77 (CS 77) single door was also installed in the property – the sleek design being backed by the tough PAS 24 security certification ensuring robust protection. Made from corrosion-resistant aluminium, the door also achieves a U-values as low as 1.4 W/m2K, making it an ideal choice for a modern home.
Ryan Darby, Marketing Manager at Aspect Windows, said: “The blending of contemporary design and robust functionality on display at Waters Edge is a testament to the attention to detail of the homeowners and architects in creating an awe-inspiring home.
“The use of high-performance aluminium doors and windows ensures security and weather resistance without compromising on the contemporary aesthetic finish of the property. By utilising expansive glazing features the result is a lovingly restored home that perfectly marries high specification design with the abundance of natural light, providing a safe, sustainable and stunning family home for years to come.
“It was a privilege to have been involved in such an ambitious project that has created a truly stunning home.”
