After great success with training schemes offered to their Specialist Basement Contractors, Newton Waterproofing Systems are proud to announce they will be working with the Property Care Association (PCA) to deliver training for the highly desirable CSSW qualification at their head office in Tonbridge, Kent.

Nationally recognised, the Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing qualification is specific to those individuals who are involved in diagnosing and designing solutions for problems with water entering below ground structures.

Developed by the PCA, the CSSW qualification is only suitable for professionals who have experience within the construction and waterproofing industry with prior knowledge of below ground waterproofing. By undertaking the training scheme, candidates will be competent at designing a structural waterproofing scheme, as required by BS 8102:2009.

For their first CSSW course, Newton were proud to work in partnership with the Australian Institute of Waterproofing (AIW) and their Australian distributors, Bayset. In the last week of August, Newton hosted six industry professionals from Australia, along with another six professionals from the UK, including two Newton employees for an intensive five-day course.

Newton’s in-house experts tutored the candidates over the five-day course on the key principals of structural waterproofing, covering Type A, B and C systems in-line with BS 8102:2009, waterproofing design and origins of water ingress. To qualify as a CSSW, candidates must successfully pass a 2.5 hour written paper and a 20-minute oral exam on the content of the training course and an additional 2 hour Legal and Health & Safety written paper.

Successful candidates will be awarded the ‘ABBE/PCA Level 3 Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing’ through the Awarding Body for Building Education (ABBE) and will be able to add the post-nominal letters ‘CSSW’ to their name.

Further to this new venture, Newton Waterproofing Systems will also be collaborating with the PCA to provide on-the-job training for students on the CITB Structural Waterproofing Apprenticeship, giving apprentices hands-on training experience in the sector.
