Eurocell are proud to announce their work with the Energy House 2.0 Project, through the installation of the Modus Window System.

With the continued urgency to reduce the UK’s carbon footprint and work towards net zero emissions, it’s important to acknowledge that the ‘built environment’, currently contributes to around 40% of UK emissions. To combat this, an extensive plan is in place to develop new build homes that can meet the Future Homes Standard and are zero carbon ready, improving energy efficiency and significantly reducing carbon emissions. In order to achieve this ambition, efficient materials and systems, are being tested in a project pioneered by the Energy House 2.0 project at the University of Salford.

Costing 16 million pounds and completed in 2022, Energy House 2.0 is a state-of-the-art testing facility, with the purpose of creating real world, temperature-controlled environments – necessary for fully understanding how materials and building practices perform.

The two large chambers the Energy House 2.0 allows for two detached houses to be built within each, with each chamber capable of simulating a wide variety of weather conditions and temperature ranging from – 20 to + 40 degrees Celsius.

It’s here their journey with the Energy House 2.0 project begins, as with the chambers completed, the development of the test homes could begin. Working alongside Barratt Developments, Bellway Homes and Saint-Gobain, their Eurocell Modus Window System was selected as the perfect choice.

On the partnership with Eurocell, Tom Cox, Technical and Development Director, Saint-Gobain Offsite Solutions said:

The testing process at Energy House 2.0 will help us to understand the thermal, air tightness and noise reduction performance the system provides, and in turn how we can design an output that focuses on optimal occupant comfort, for example by maximising natural daylight and minimising overheating risk ”.

The test homes were completed in January this year and the Energy House 2.0 was opened to 400 visitors. Tours are still available through the year, scheduled to align with testing periods.
