Based within the Merseyside dock area, Oil Salvage Limited is a major UK company specialising in waste oil recycling. The operation also includes the treatment, reprocessing, safe disposal or recycling of other hazardous wastes. Trading since 1986 this family owned firm is committed to a continuous investment programme to ensure stringent operational and environmental standards are met at their sites.

Recently the company resurfaced one of their service yard. It was essential the 5450m2 concreted yard had an effective and robust surface water drainage system. The company chose Hauraton FASERFIX® KS200 Type 020 Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) channels fitted with 20mm slotted ductile iron gratings having a loading Class of F900.

About 180 metres of channel were supplied and installed in three separate runs. Each channel has a drainage cross section of 509 cm2 with the channel system for the site designed to handle a rainfall of 50mm per hour.

The FASERFIX® channels also feature the company’s patented SIDE-LOCK boltless fixing system which allows for quick fitting or removal of the gratings. For example, 10 metres of 0.5m long gratings can be fitted or removed in about 70 seconds. The gratings can also be bolted down were necessary.

Ian Burton the Hauraton project engineer commented, “Our track record on projects of this type gave Oil Salvage Limited the confidence to specify our FASERFIX® KS system as it was deemed more suitable to deal with the high volume of heavy tankers traversing the yard on a daily bases. They were also impressed with the SIDE-LOCK system as it allowed for easy access to the channel runs for clearing any build-up of debris, an important consideration for this site.
