Futamura, a global leader in renewable cellulose films production, operates its primary manufacturing facility in Wigton, Cumbria, nestled between the Solway Firth and the Lake District in the UK.
The Challenge
Futamura embarked on an extensive upgrade of their acquired facility in 2016. Among the various improvements, they partnered with Eurosafe Solutions in formulating a safe maintenance access strategy.
Identifying the need for regular rooftop access for tasks such as air-quality monitoring, roof extract fan maintenance, and ongoing roof upkeep, Futamura sought a reliable solution.
The Solution:
Eurosafe Solutions recommended the implementation of the Ascent™ Aluminium Roof Walkway and step system. This solution aimed to establish a level, free-draining, anti-slip surface for maintenance personnel.
The Ascent™ system, strategically installed to traverse roof slopes and accommodate roof vents, ensured a level path despite variations in roof elevations.
To facilitate safe traversal along the roof slope, steps were integrated along the entire length of the walkway.
Utilizing bespoke self-drill fixing screws and weather-tight washers, the walkway was securely attached to the roof sheet, eliminating the need for extensive penetrations and subsequent weatherproofing.
Eurosafe's expert personnel executed the installation in adherence to comprehensive guidelines provided.
Compliance and Sustainability:
The Ascent™ Aluminium Roof Walkways adhere to rigorous standards, including EN 516:2006 and BS EN 14122-2 & 3:2016. Manufactured at their Sheffield premises, these walkways meet CE/UKCA standards in line with BS EN 1090 manufacturing procedures.
Crafted from 6082-T6 structural grade aluminium, the walkways are not only durable and recyclable but also contribute to the safety of maintenance personnel and align with environmental sustainability goals for future generations.
