Reece Clarke Homecoming Event at the Airdrie Town Hall
Royal Ballet’s Principal Dancer, Reece Clarke, returned to his home town of Airdrie last week for two special performances.
The matinee and evening performances took place at the Airdrie Town Hall in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Reece
first performed here at the age of four.
A
Harlequin Liberty
sprung floor with a
Harlequin Cascade
performance top surface was chosen for the stage at the town hall. Reece said: “We were so fortunate to have Harlequin’s sprung dance floor for our performances. For a dancer, the stage floor is one of the most important parts of the performance, and having a Harlequin floor covered in their dance vinyl meant we could perform to the highest standards and feel totally at ease knowing that we were in a safe environment. Huge thank you to the Harlequin team.”
Reece and his three brothers trained at the Janis Ridley School of Dance before joining The Royal Ballet School to pursue their dreams of becoming professional ballet dancers.
Senior Stage Manager, Johanna Adams Farley, said: “When I knew that Harlequin would be involved it was, as always, the most reassuring feeling because I knew that one of the most important areas for the dancers would be supported by the very best and they would dance with confidence. The performances were wonderful, and Harlequin’s contribution was immense.”

The Fonteyn 2024
The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition returns to the Royal Academy of Dance Headquarters this year with over 60 candidates participating in the semi-finals.
The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition is the Royal Academy of Dance‘s annual event which is known as one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world.
The Fonteyn offers all candidates the opportunity to work with a variety of choreographers and professionals at the RAD HQ before they perform during The Fonteyn final at
His Majesty’s Theatre in London.
All candidates danced on a Harlequin sprung floor with a Harlequin vinyl top surface at the RAD studios and the RAD’s Aud Jebsen Theatre. At His Majesty’s Theatre candidates performed on a Harlequin Liberty sprung floor with a Harlequin Cascade performance top surface.
RAD Artistic Director, Alexander Campbell, said: “At this stage and level of ballet, it is important to know that you are secure with your footing so you can dance with the energy needed to put through the floor in order to do certain steps. It is absolutely crucial that we can offer that. If I know it is a Harlequin floor, I know I’m in safe hands and a little bit of me can relax.”
This year the competition had over 60 candidates from 13 different countries who all competed for various medals and awards, including the Dancer’s Own Choreographic Award and the Musicality Award.
Harlequin would like to congratulate all of
this year’s winners of The Fonteyn 2024 including Antonia Maria Cramb, 18 years old from the UK, who won the Gold award
The RAD has also now announced that the next edition of The Fonteyn will be held at the Auditório Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil, from 11-19 October 2025.
MOVE IT 2023
Another great year at MOVE IT! Here’s a little recap…
This year MOVE IT had some great headliners including Philip Birchall, Tasha Ghouri and Mira Jebari! Layton Williams, Dane Bates and Neil Jones returned to MOVE IT again this year to continue to teach, talk or perform on the main stage.
Over 100 performances took place on the main stage, hosted by Nigel Clarke. All dancers performed on Harlequin Liberty sprung floor and Harlequin Cascade vinyl floor.
The Freestyle stage, located at the heart of the show, gave dancers the opportunity to compete in different rounds to win some goodies and the chance to dance at MOVE IT 2024. Everyone danced on Harlequin FreeStyle performance vinyl floor.
Harlequin also provided flooring in dance studios, including the Harlequin Masterclass Studio which had Harlequin Cascade.
The sales and marketing teams were on the Harlequin stand this year to answer any of your questions about home studio equipment and your dance studio enquiries.
Harlequin also held a competition where there was a chance to win a personalised practice mat. Congratulations to this years winners!
