High-performance rigid PIR roofing insulation from Kingspan Insulation has played a vital role in bringing Morecambes once famous art deco Midland Hotel back to life.
This grade II listed building originally built in the 1930s, is situated in a prime seafront location on Morecambe Bay and was once popular with glamorous guests such as Coco Chanel and Laurence Olivier. Thanks to developers Urban Splash and architects Union North it has been restored to its former glory and boasts 44 boutique style rooms, a stunning sea view restaurant and Rotunda bar serving great cocktails and locally produced treats.
Mac Roofing & Contracting Ltd specified and installed 400m2 of Kingspans Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM tapered roof insulation for the refurbishment of this prestigious project.
Sean Matthews, Procurement Manager of Mac Roofing & Contracting Ltd said: We specified the Thermataper TT47 roof insulation as we have used it in the past and knew that the products properties would meet the high standards required for this project.
He added Having also used this product previously we know the system is easy to work with and install, and that we would be safe in the knowledge that we would receive high levels of support from the tapered roofing department at Kingspan as well as good quality drawings and technical support.
For this project the Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM was used beneath an Index Felt System ensuring low heat loss through the roof, as well as preventing the build-up of rainwater, which can seriously decrease the life of a flat roof by subjecting the membrane to thermal stress, alkali formation and mould growth.
When correctly applied Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM offers continuous high performance throughout the lifetime of the roof. It is lightweight and easy to install, resistant to water vapour, and unaffected by foot traffic incurred in the course of normal maintenance. With a thermal conductivity as low as 0.024W/mK, the boards can easily achieve the U-values required for compliance with Building Regulations.
The Kingspan Thermataper range has been designed to prevent the formation of water ponds (the most common cause of failure of flat roofs) by providing effective roof falls for both new and existing flat roofs. Each solution in the range has been specifically developed for use beneath a particular waterproofing membrane.
The system is estimated to be as little as 1% of the weight of a solution using screed to falls with a flat insulation board; and its scheduling advantages arise from the fact that, unlike screed to falls systems, Thermataper does not need time to dry out.
