For the specification of high quality tiles and tile installation products, Domus and Mapei have been a formidable team for many years. A team which has partnered architects in some of the highest profile projects in the UK.

It was only natural that when embarking upon their new "Specification Home" in Clerkenwell, London's renowned design district, Domus invited Mapei to enhance the experience for visiting specifiers by showcasing many of these technologically advanced installation systems and products.

This 700SQM specification & material hub is an intriguing new concept - a unique environment for architects, and designers to explore new ideas and discover specification possibilities. The store is innovative, interactive but importantly adaptive. By elevating display units on wheels with no fixed zones the space can be altered to create surprise and intrigue on each visit.

Its large technical area addresses all the performance questions for hard surfaces and substrates with useful cut-through models, and the extensive samples library demonstrates the wide range of materials & systems that Mapei and Domus can provide.

Designed with engineers and technical designers in mind, the space will showcase many of Mapei's product systems including complete preparation and tile installation solutions for swimming pools, lightweight porcelain slabs, heated substrates, problem substrates and many more.

Each system is presented in displays detailing the succession of layers of materials involved to reach the surface finish. From substrate preparation and waterproofing through to installation grout and sealant, each system fully complements many of Domus' new and exclusive tile collections. Systems from Mapei's Cementitious & Resin Flooring line and Thermal Insulation line will also be available to view.

An expert technical team will be based here to support with any detailed projects.

Preparation is underway for the opening this year, with an official launch party taking place in January 2012.

There are continued planned events throughout 2012 including celebrations for Mapei's 75th Anniversary Reception in February. Mapei and Domus will host numerous RIBA Accredited CPD seminars including 'Sub-Floor Preparation', 'Fast-Track Screeds', 'Avoiding Ceramic Tiling Failures', 'Epoxy Resin and Cementitious Flooring' and 'Effective Waterproofing'.

Mapei and Domus have developed a strong rapport over the years and have been involved in many prestigious projects together including: T5 at Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Wembley Stadium, The Hurlingham Club, Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham, Wimbledon Tennis Centre Court Hospitality Area and Winter Gardens Leisure complex in Blackpool.

The new space will no doubt inspire numerous more commercial and residential projects.
