Mapei UK have recently launched Mapemotar HB R3, a medium strength, high build repair mortar.

The new addition for the professional construction industry by Mapei is suitable for use on overhead and vertical repairs including balconies, culverts and tunnel linings.

MapeMotor HB R3 is recommended for non-structural and structural repairs up to R3 strength, for smoothing concrete surfaces and covering defects as well as repairing mouldings such as overhanging or decorative elements.

Paul Russell, Product Manager for Concrete Repairs at Mapei UK said "When mixed with water, Mapemortar HB R3 forms an easy to apply mortar with a thixotropic consistency which can be applied on vertical surfaces without slumping even in substantial thicknesses, without any need for a fixed formwork. The product can be applied easily using a trowel or spatula on a solid base substrate at thicknesses of 3 to 80mm in a single layer and remains workable for approximately one hour at temperatures over 20⁰C to either provide coverage or to repair or protect concrete surfaces.”

When fully cured, Mapemortar HB R3 has a moderate flexural and compressive strength along with thermal expansion and permeability.

Mapemortar HB R3 meets the requirements of EN 1504-9: ‘Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures- Definitions, requirements, quality control and evaluation of conformity- General principles for the use of products and systems’ and the minimum requirements for EN 1504-3 “Structural and non-structural repair” for structural mortars of class R3.
