BOWA MEDICAL UK is embarking on a fresh chapter at its new headquarters just outside of Torquay. In addition to hosting key offices for the firm, an innovator in ultrasonic products for medical applications, it also provides research and training facilities and a high-tech manufacturing plant. The energy efficient building specification incorporates Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 within the floor.

Floor Insulation

The building is part of Oak Tree Business Park, a low-carbon development with a commitment to reducing emissions through careful design. The specification of Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 for the ground floors within the BOWA MEDICAL UK HQ supported this wider commitment.

The rigid extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards achieve a thermal conductivity of 0.033 W/mK and are resistant to ground moisture penetration. In combination with the other building fabric measures, this is expected to reduce the building’s heating demand and lower overall operational emissions. This performance is also key to maintaining a consistent internal environment, ensuring that medical equipment being manufactured in the facility is not exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations.

Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 also achieved a high compressive strength of 300 kPa when tested to BS EN 826:2013. This made them well suited for use across the ground floors of the facility which may be exposed to high levels of foot traffic and heavy machinery within the manufacturing area.
