Newton Specialist Basement Contractor; Gulliver Timber Treatments, was chosen by the proprietors of Hendall Manor Conference Centre in East Sussex to design and install an expert waterproofing solution for one of their outbuildings which had earth retaining walls.

A system was required to combat the damp in the property and to deal with the risk of water penetration to the retaining walls.

The solution was to utilize the Newton System 500 Cavity Drain Membrane System. Newton 508 was fixed to the walls with Newton Multi-Plugs. The MultiPlug allows for battens to be fixed directly to the heads without compromising the membrane itself. Newton Basedrain was installed around the retaining walls with 50mm of closed cell insulation and Newton 508 was applied to the floor area.

Finally a 65mm screed was applied to the floor membrane followed by insulation and plasterboard application to the battens. Lastly it was skimmed and multi-finish applied.

The Newton System 500 has effectively provided a quick and non-costly structural waterproofing and damp proofing solution to the building. The property had two retaining elevations allowing for water entering the system to be discharged via gravity without the need for mechanical extraction.
