Client: Hyde Housing Association
Architect: ECD Architects Ltd
Contractor: Mears Group PLC
Type of works: Kingspan Insulation products achieve CO2 reductions during a refurbishment project.
A number of insulation products from Kingspan Insulation helped the Hyde group, a leading provider of affordable housing, to achieve massive CO2 reductions during an experimental refurbishment project.
Hyde Housing Association worked with ECD Architects Ltd and Mears Group PLC on this project with an overall aim of reducing the CO2 emissions of the property by 80%. The chosen property was a three-bedroom mid-terrace dwelling in Mottingham, which was selected as it is typical of much of Hydes existing stock.
One of the main priorities in achieving the 80% reduction was to minimise heat losses from the building fabric and this was addressed through improved insulation to floors, walls and roof.
Mears Group specified Kingspan Insulations Kooltherm K5 External Wall Board for the two exposed walls of the rear extension, as well as Kingspan Kooltherm K17 Insulated Plasterboard for all the remaining internal walls, with Thermafloor TF70 and Thermapitch TP10 also being used.
Paul Kellaway, Commercial Manager for Mears Group said, As a preferred supply chain partner for the Mears Group, Kingspan have previously been assessed by us on service value and performance, and for this particular project we looked carefully at the performance of each of the products which were deemed to achieve the required specified results.
He added, Kingspan, through its product range, ensured that the very high carbon reduction target of 80% set by the client was achieved.
Hyde Sustainability Co-ordinator, Susie Ward said, We are thrilled with the overall results of the project, which saw emissions reduced by the property by as much as 80 per cent, resulting in a greener home and reduced energy bills for residents.
Kingspan Kooltherm K5 External Wall Board is a premium performance insulation board, designed for use behind traditional and lightweight polymer modified renders and has a Class O/Low Risk fire-rated insulation core and negligible smoke obscuration. The product is also unaffected by air infiltration and is resistant to the passage of water vapour.
Kingspans extensive range of premium performance Kooltherm insulation products for roofs, walls and floors now boasts a lambda value as low as 0.020W/m.K, whilst that of the high performance Therma range is now as low as 0.022W/m.K, helping to achieve desired U-values with amongst the thinnest of all commonly used insulation products.
Kingspan Insulation offers an extensive range of insulation solutions for both new build and refurbishment projects. Specifiers, stockists and contractors are supported with a comprehensive and free technical advisory service.
