Melton Mowbray Railway Station, which first opened in 1846, is owned by Network Rail and operated by East Midlands Railway. It forms part of the Birmingham to Peterborough Line.

As part of a recent station improvement programme, Gravity Solutions, specialists in fall protection systems, were engaged to design and implement a safe access solution. This project included specifying the Ascent Aluminium walkway and roof step system.

Gravity Solutions selected the Ascent Aluminium walkway and roof step system to provide a robust, anti-slip, level, and free-draining surface for maintenance personnel.

Where the walkway transitions along sloping roof areas, it incorporates steps along its length and is fitted with guardrails on both sides for enhanced safety. The system is secured to the roof sheeting using proprietary self-drilling screws with self-sealing, weatherproof washers. This method enables secure installation without requiring significant roof penetrations, thereby maintaining weatherproofing.

The Ascent walkway was installed by Gravity Solutions’ experienced team in line with detailed installation guidelines. The system is designed and tested to meet strict safety standards, including EN 516:2006 and BS EN 14122-2 & 3:2016, and is manufactured at their Sheffield facility in compliance with CE/UKCA certification under BS EN 1090 procedures.

Fabricated from 6082-T6 structural-grade aluminium, the Ascent walkway is fully recyclable, ensuring the safety of maintenance personnel today and supporting sustainability for future generations when it reaches the end of its service life.
