Tobacco warehouse specifies Tarmac in preparation for a prestigious event

Tarmac’s London Readymix team were contacted by Conneely Dry Lining, on 1 March 2016 with an urgent request from one of their most important clients.

The prestigious Annual Berkeley Homes Ball was to be held on 21st April in the basement of a listed 18th Century tobacco warehouse. However, the existing floors were uneven, and the events company needed a level floor to work on as soon as possible in March to prepare for the event and had to have carpets in place by 8th April.

The uneven floors meant that screed depths varied between 30mm and 75mm. A screed that dried rapidly, regardless of the depth of installation was required. Tarmac’s flowing screed plant at Silvertown had recently completed plant trials of the new TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX.

Two separate areas of the warehouse floor required different solutions: The welfare area, totalling 200m2, required the thinnest screed. Tarmac proposed a 30mm bonded solution using TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX.

The dance floor, dining area and bar (totalling 420m2) had more room for screed and an unbonded solution at 40mm minimum was proposed, again using TOPFLOW SCREED C BELITEX.

The Welfare area was installed on 9th March. A visit the following afternoon established that the screed was ready for foot traffic and the events company started work on this area on 14th March.

The dance floor, dining and bar area were installed on 15th March and the screed was ready for light foot traffic the following afternoon. Work started on this area on 21st March.

The events company had all their work completed in ample time for the ball to take place on 21st April .
