Mega-Balance feat. Mini Mega Balance

Wallbarn’s MEGA BALANCE self-levelling pedestals are designed to support heavy loads, with a height range from 25mm to 1,025mm. The self-levelling headpiece adapts to variations in the deck or paving surface beneath the pedestal. The Mini-Mega Balance was developed to simplify the lowest height range of 25mm to 75mm, previously covered by four different pedestals, now consolidated into a single Mini Mega Balance unit.

For Paving
The self-levelling headpiece includes four positioning lugs (fins) arranged in a crucifix formation near the edges, allowing for precise placement of paving slabs. A mechanism at the base of the headpiece enables smooth movement and positioning of each slab. These lugs help separate the slabs, ensuring proper drainage between them, and creating a uniform, straight paving line. The headpiece also features a rubber anti-shock pad, which improves grip, insulates against vibration, and reduces noise transmission to the deck beneath.

For Decking
The lugs on the headpiece are positioned towards the edges, leaving a 55mm gap to securely house a timber joist. Decking boards are then fixed to the timber joist frame, eliminating the need to cut furrings as the pedestal height can be easily adjusted. The auto-correcting headpiece speeds up decking installations compared to traditional methods. Additionally, the anti-shock shim on the headpiece grips the joist more effectively, making the installation process smoother.

Rail System
The Universal Headpiece has been specifically designed to work with any of Wallbarn’s aluminium rails or joists. The lower height aluminium box rails are ideal for low-height paving or decking systems, while the taller aluminium I-Plus rails are suited to larger spans with minimal deflection. A special paving head is available, which can be fitted onto any of these rails as part of a paving system.

Accessories

The Grey Nut
In its standard form, each pedestal is self-levelling. To convert it into a fixed head, simply use "The Grey Nut." To apply, insert The Grey Nut into the centre of the headpiece, aligning it with the marked sections. Press down firmly, ensuring that the arrows on The Grey Nut match the black moulding in the headpiece’s centre. Once correctly aligned, the headpiece is securely locked into a fixed position.

The Black Nut
The Black Nut is designed for use with the Mega Balance pedestal. When inserted into the headpiece’s centre, it allows for height adjustments by twisting the pedestal’s stem. This feature is especially useful for lower-height pedestals or when the pedestal is already positioned and connected to an aluminium rail or joist.

The Key - Retro-adjust Height
Mega Balance pedestals are designed for future-proofing and ease of use, allowing in-situ levelling adjustments without lifting slabs. Over time, paving surfaces can become uneven due to movement, causing slabs to rock or dip. The solution is "The Key," which lets users adjust the pedestal height without removing slabs.

Instead of lifting, twisting, and replacing slabs to achieve the correct height, users can insert The Key into the headpiece to make precise height adjustments, restoring the level surface. This faster process improves efficiency while reducing health and safety risks, as operatives avoid lifting heavy slabs and the potential for dropping them.

Dome Extenders
The Mega Balance range includes two types of Dome Extenders that can be used with any of the pedestals to increase height flexibility on site. These extenders are a practical addition to any order, particularly useful when site measurements are inaccurate or project specifications change unexpectedly. They offer a quick solution to avoid delays.

The Dome Extender increases the height of a Mega Balance pedestal by 25mm, while the Half Dome adds 12.5mm. Up to three Dome Extenders can be stacked on a single pedestal without compromising its structural integrity.

Metal Edge Plate
The Metal Edge Plate is designed to support and position tiles and slabs up against walls and parapets. It is loose-laid onto the headpiece of each pedestal, holding two tiles while maintaining correct spacing and supporting the overhanging sections. This ensures clean lines and attractive finishes on terraces, podiums, and flat roofs. The bullnose angle of the plate can be adjusted to create a 10mm gap between paving and walls, as required by building guidelines, allowing for adequate drainage.

Rubber Crumb Acoustic Pad
The Rubber Crumb Pad provides both protection and acoustic insulation. This 5mm thick, 200 x 200mm pad is placed between the sub-deck and the baseplates of pedestals to protect against compression and point loading, while reducing sound transmission from pedestrian traffic.

Levelling Shims
Available in 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm thicknesses, Levelling Shims are ideal for making minor adjustments to achieve a flat, even surface. They compensate for slab thickness variations or irregularities in the deck surface. Shims are made from strong HDPE and can be stacked or snapped apart into quarters or halves for precise adjustments.

Quality

The unique design is robust, stable and durable whilst being designed with versatility in mind. The pedestal is injection moulded from virgin fibre polypropylene without fillers to withstand extremes of temperature and load.

Each pedestal has a weight tolerance in excess of 3,000kg per unit and has been tested to temperatures of +75°C and -40°C.
