The ultimate specialist asphalt sports surface at Rushmere Sports Club

Tarmac’s ULTIPOROUS LEISURE was recommended for Suffolk's Rushmere Sports Club to enable all-weather use and avoid surface water and ice.

The Challenge
This sports club in Suffolk required three new sports pitches. The client's brief specified that the new surface needed to withstand constant use for a range of sports including netball, basketball and football. It also needed to be porous and freedraining to enable all-weather use and avoid surface water and ice.

The Solution
ULTIPOROUS LEISURE was recommended as a 6mm surface course with a specialist binder course. It offered a durable finish along with the freedraining performance required by the client. The modified binder allowed good compaction and finish, even where hand-laying was required in between the sports pitches, where lack of access meant that a paving machine could not be used.

Results and Benefits
ULTIPOROUS LEISURE was used to surface the entire area, including underneath the astroturf pitches as an alternative to an aggregate base. As planned, the porous surface and open aggregate structure of the binder course allowed rainwater to quickly drain and disperse, for extended playing time. The smooth, even finish provided a sound playing surface, free from loose gravel, delivering the consistent playing performance that the client required
