Barden Marina offers an idyllic setting for a new development of three and four-bedroomed houses and two-bedroomed apartments.
Situated on the site of a former weaver’s mill, the estate is within easy walking distance of Burnley town centre and backs directly onto the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, offering homeowners stunning views out across the local Lancashire countryside.
When creating the plans for the new development, the project team were eager to ensure that the homes respected the heritage of the site and the adjoining canal, whilst also providing all the benefits of modern construction. For this reason, Barnfield Construction incorporated traditional features such as stone lintels and slate tiles into the properties whilst specifying Kooltherm K108 Cavity Board for the external walls of the homes and townhouses to provide excellent insulating performance.
The rigid insulation boards deliver a thermal conductivity of 0.019 W/mK, allowing the desired thermal performance to be achieved with a minimal product thickness. They also feature a low emissivity foil facing which raises the thermal resistance of the cavity, helping to prevent overheating in the warmer months.
At Barden Marina, the 75 mm Kooltherm K108 boards were fitted flush with the inner blockwork construction using wall ties and retaining clips. A further 50 mm cavity was then retained between the insulation and the outer blockwork, helping to meet National Housebuilding Council technical requirements. Despite the slim thickness of the insulation, their excellent thermal performance allowed the walls to achieve a design U-value of 0.019 W/mK.
