Top new project: Centre of Excellence for Engineering & Manufacturing, Fareham

Plans have been submitted to Fareham Council from Perkins Ogden for a new engineering college in the town.

The Centre of Excellence for Engineering, Manufacturing and Advanced Skills Technology, will provide training facilities for around 400 students, with a focus on aeronautical, marine, electrical and mechanical engineering.

The scheme has received a £2.88m Enhanced Renewal Grant from the Skills Funding Agency towards the project cost. Scheme is known as the SeaMast project.

The building features open-plan engineering workshops, classrooms, a learning resource centre and cafe, as well as conference and exhibition space for local employers.

Work is due to start on site in June for the £12m with the centre set to open in September 2014.
