Project: The Bloc
Architects: PCKO Architects
The Bloc development a scheme of 221 affordable housing units with parking has now been completed. The £24.3m development from PCKO Architects is a phased scheme involving decanting existing residents who are largely key workers at the nearby North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton.
Of its 221 units, 128 are for key workers or intermediate rent, 65 are for social rent and 28 are shared ownership. The development will also contain a local office for the client, Origin Housing.
The scheme, which started in the Autumn of 2010 is a 2.24ha site with a four storey building at its heart. The largest building was designed to form a natural barrier to the busy North Circular road which forms the northern boundary.
The second zone is smaller in scale and forms the central section of the masterplan. The third zone is the most domestic in scale and character, with the buildings defining the Main Square.
